film. It would be a trio, like one of the old Somerset Maugham anthologies, and it would be sexual in intent and content." Calley went on to claim that Kubrick was the first to withdraw. Bergman and Fellini then tendered their resignations as well. Bergman’s episode, “

,” later became a Broadway musical called
The Petrified Prince
.But it was also a screenplay, one never produced. But producer Wilbur Stark tried in the 1980s--and this is an original copy (not a reproduction) of that Bergman-penned, Stark-altered 81-page script, whose production was slated to feature Orson Welles. Also included in this lot is the nine-page promo package Stark put together, featuring a letter to Bergman. In that letter, Stark, who wanted to direct the film, writes, "I very much appreciate the fact that you are going to take the time to re-read your original Swedish screenplay... I know that it is very difficult for any creative individual to accept another's treatment of his work. I assure you that when I do the picture you will enjoy it." This lot is an extraordinary piece of film history!
