    The Naked and the Dead was one of the last movies made by RKO before the legendary studio shut down!
    Based on Norman Mailer’s bestselling novel of World War II combat in the Pacific, the novel was originally published in 1948 when Mailer was 25, it was his debut novel.
    Based partially on Mailer’s own experiences with the US Army's 112
    th
    Cavalry Regiment in the Philippines during the Second World War, it depicts the wartime experiences of the men of a single platoon battling the fanatical Japanese in the stifling tropical hell of a jungle island and a maddening odyssey of loneliness, fear, exhaustion, and death!
