Vault Copy Draft script for the 1929 film, stamped three times with "Vault Copy," and annotation of the name of uncredited crew member "Mr. Cohn" on front wrapper in holograph pencil.
Based on the 1928 novel by S.S. Van Dine, the fourth of twelve Philo Vance mystery novels. The body of man nicknamed "Cock Robin" is found at an archery range with an arrow through the heart and a chess bishop left as a clue. Basil Rathbone's only portrayal of the stylish New York P.I. Philo Vance. He would take on the role of Sherlock Holmes, for which he is best known, beginning in 1939.
Beige titled wrappers with M.G.M. label, dated AUGUST 10, 1929, with credits for author S.S. Van Dine and director Nick Grinde. Title page integral with first page, with credits for screenwriter Lenora J. Coffee. 135 leaves, with last page of text numbered 135. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good with chipping and closed tears at extremities and closed tears to spine, bound with two gold brads.
