MAY, JOE. Original Scripts for the Unproduced Film Alive and Kicking. Screenplay by Joe May and Edward Dein
. Hollywood, CA: n.d.. Two original drafts of shooting scripts for an unproduced film titled Alive and Kicking. The first draft credits Joe May and Edward Dein as the screenwriters and is 151 pages long. The second has “Joe May” in pencil in an unknown hand on the title page and is also 151 pages long. Both scripts are in a printed folder cover. Each script is in lightly handled condition with some minor age-toning and edge wear not affecting the text. Joe May (1880 - 1954) was an Austrian film director and producer and one of the pioneers of German cinema along with such notables as Fritz Lang, Harry Piel, Max Landa, and Emil Jannings. In 1933 he and his wife Mia emigrated to the United States where he worked mainly for Universal Pictures. Some of his later films include Confession (1937) with Kay Francis, The Invisible Man Returns (1940) and The House of Seven Gables (1940) with Vincent Price, and Johnny Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1944) with Robert Mitchum in an early role.
